The government has revoked the licenses of four casinos operated by Nepal Recreation Centre for not paying royalty to the government, Sunday.
Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Khadga Bahadur Bishwakarma scrapped the licenses of Casino Nepal located at Hotel Soaltee, Casino Tara located at Hotel Hyatt Regency, Casino Anna located at Hotel Annapurna and Casino Everest located at Hotel Everest.
He has also decided to cancel the registration of Nepal Recreation Centre.
The ministry had issued a public notice in the name of the casino operator to pay the royalty or face the music.
The four casinos owe in the government Rs 340 million in total as royalty.
The closure of the casinos is likely to leave a very negative impact in the Nepal’s tourism industry. Large number of tourists mostly from India come to Nepal only to visit the casinos.
One of the casinos closed today, Casino Nepal, is the oldest casino in Asia. nepalnews.com
